Scan2Notes is a menu-bar app for Apple Silicon Macs that sends scans from a USB ScanSnap iX500 to Apple Notes. Press the scanner’s Scan button to save a searchable PDF and create a note with the PDF attached.

Scan, save, and organize

  • Scan both sides in color, with automatic cropping and straightening.
  • Create searchable PDFs using on-device text recognition.
  • Choose the Apple Notes account and folder for your scans.
  • Customize filenames and the folder where PDFs are saved.
  • Keep the original PDF on your Mac after importing it into Notes.

Compatibility

The current build requires macOS 27 on an Apple Silicon Mac and a ScanSnap iX500 connected by USB. Wi-Fi scanning and other scanner models are not supported.

Scanning and text recognition run locally. Apple Notes handles any syncing or sharing configured for the selected account and folder.
